Civitas Bank Golf Classic
Quail Crossing Golf Club
Boonville, Indiana Par 71; 6,758 yards
Boonville, Indiana...For the tenth time this year a Texan won a NGA
Hooters Tour event. This week the player was Wesley Short, from
Austin, Texas, who captured the Civitas Bank Golf Classic on the
second playoff hole. Short finished the tournament tied with Craig
Cozby at 12-under par. Short fired a closing round even par 71 while
Cozby finished with a 3-under par 68. At one point during the final
round Cozby owned a 2-shot lead after making the turn at 5-under par,
but two costly bogeys down the stretch forced the playoff. "Those two
bogeys on 15 and 17 obviously hurt," sighed Cozby. "But I played
really well this week, I only missed 3 fairways during the tournament,
but the last one I missed was on the last playoff hole." Short, on
the other hand, made 2 birdies right out of the gate on holes2 and 3,
but then made a double bogey on the 4th hole to fall into a tie with
Cozby. "I made at birdie on the 10th hole and that kept me within
eyesight of Craig," said Short, who won his second tournament of the
year. "The key for me was the 25-foot chip from off the green on the
17th hole for a par. He (Cozby) played so much better than me today,
but I'm happy to have won." Randy Wylie and Ray Franz finished tied
for third place.
Next week the NGA Hooters Tour moves to WhiteWater Country Club
for the Naturally Fresh Cup, the season finale, in Fayetteville, Georgia.
