Taylors, SC... Wesley Short, Austin, TX, took command of the tough
Pebble Creek Country Club Linkside Course and won the 4th Annual
Dick Brooks Automotive Classic by 3 strokes and won $15,450.
Short's 13-under par total was challenged only by Chris Winchip,
Columbia, SC who finished with a final round 7-under par 65. "The
pins were tucked today," said Short, who finished in 2nd place in last
year's event. "I played 26 holes today and the only thing that kept me
going was the adrenaline rush. I played it safe on the holes I needed to
play safe on, and I made a lot of good 2 putts." The University of
Texas graduate is a 2 1/2 year veteran of the NGA Hooters Tour and
travels with last week's champion Zoran Zorkic, they were paired
together in the final pairing of the day. "I started the day three shots
back," said Zorkic. "He (Short) putted solid and putted horrible,
although I did hit the ball really well." "My hat goes off to the greens
crew at Pebble Creek," continued Short. "These greens were by far
the best greens we will play all year." Last year's champion Mark
Wilson finished tied for 6th place after barely making the cut at
6-over par.
Next week the NGA Hooters Tour moves to Matthews, North Carolina
for the Jackaroo Steakhouse Classic at Emerald Lake Golf Club.
