Mobile, AL...After being winless since 1996, Andrew Morse, Needham,
Mass., roared back to the winner's circle with a convincing 11-under
par win at the Hooters Classic at Azalea City Golf Club in Mobile.
Morse fired a final round 72 to finish five strokes better than Bob
Heintz, Clearwater, Fla., and Robert Russell, Joplin, Mo. "It feels
good to beat this kind of field," said Morse. "There are so many
young guys out here, most out of college, but now that I'm 40 they
seem so young. They are all great players, they may not be known now,
but they will be very soon."
Morse started the day with a 3 stroke lead. "I wanted to be aggressive
on the front nine and build my lead," continued Morse. "Mike (Tschetter
who finished in 4th place) had some tough luck and some rough up and
downs, therefore I was up by 6 at the turn." Morse went bogey-bogey
to start his back nine but that got him more fired up. He made a birdie
on the 16th hole and cruised home. "The wind was tough to judge, I
couldn't figure it out," said Morse. "I liked the new greens, I prefer
them hard and fast, which they were."
After a two week break, the NGA Hooters Tour will be in Blythewood,
South Carolina the week of March 15-21 to play at The Windermere Club.
