Little River, S.C... Jason Caron chipped in from 40-feet away to
prevent a playoff with Kevin Blanton and won the $15,000 first
place check at the Coors Light Classic in Little River, South
Carolina. Fourth round leader Derrick Pursley faltered on the
back nine by making a bogey on 2 of his last 4 holes and finished
in a tie for third place with Chad Campbell. The 17th hole was
the turning point, Pursley missed a 2-foot putt for birdie, while
Caron made an 8 foot putt to go to 12-under par. "He (Pursley)
hit the ball within 2 feet of the hole on 17 from 120 yards out,"
said Caron. "When he missed it, I couldn't believe it. I was
disappointed that it didn't go in, I can't root against him." On the
18th hole, Kevin Blanton drilled a 35-foot putt for birdie to finish
at 12-under par and the leader in the clubhouse. But Caron used
some of his short game magic to chip in from 40 feet to win the
tournament. It was Caron's second win of the season. "I thought
that last year was my best year as a professional," smiled Caron.
"But this year I haven't practiced any harder, I guess I'm more
mentally prepared and patient. I am trying to act just like Chad
(Campbell) and not get too excited or upset after good or bad shots."
The NGA Hooters Tour is off next week before moving to Twin
Rivers Country Club in Oviedo, Florida for the Hooters Classic.
