Hooters Classic at Ocala

Citrus Springs, FL... Chad Campbell, an old familiar face in the
winner's circle, made a 25 foot putt for birdie on the final hole
of regulation to win the Hooters Classic at El Diablo Golf and
Country Club in Citrus Springs, Florida. Campbell finished the
tournament at 10-under par, one stroke better than Chris Winchip.
Campbell started the day with a 3 shot lead but Winchip, from
Columbia, SC, cut it to one on the third hole by making a birdie.
Campbell came right back with a birdie on the 5th hole. The two
players were tied on the 12th hole after Campbell went bogey-
bogey to fall to 9-under par. He then came back with a birdie on
the 14th hole before again making a bogey on 17 to drop back
into a tie. "I left a few putts out there," said Winchip, who heard
the applause of Campbell's winning putt in the scoring tent. "I
wasn't planning on playing anymore holes today," smiled Campbell
following his birdie on 18 that did a complete 360 degree turn
around the hole before falling in. With his victory, he moves safely
to the front of the $250,000 Naturally Fresh National Points
Championship. He finished tied for second last week in Jacksonville,
Florida. Campbell, who's number one on the Nike Tour Conditional
list, plans on playing the full NGA Hooters Tour schedule in 1999.
This is Campbell's 4th win on the NGA Hooters Tour in his third year,
and he has at least 25 top ten finishes.
Next week the tour moves to Mobile, Alabama for the Hooters Classic
at Azalea City Golf Club.
