Delta Pontiac Performers Golf Classic
Boot Heel Golf Club
Sikeston, Missouri Par 72; 6,891 yards
Sikeston, Mo... Michael Connell, of Richardson TX, won the Third Annual
Delta Pontiac Performers Golf Classic by shooting a six-under 66 in the
final round on Sunday afternoon for a tournament total of 31-under par.
First and second round leader Bobby Elliott, of Plano, TX, shot a final
round three-under 69 and finished four strokes back of Connell.Connell
started the day with a one shot lead over Elliott. "I went into the day
thinking that I had to get to at least 30-under par in order to have a
chance to win." "I was in a similar situation earlier in the year, and I
was unable to capitalize. I just wanted to put together four solid rounds
and take my chances from there. "I didn't have the best start today,
but I just told myself to go back to the basics," said Connell. "I kept
an eye on the leaderboard, because I knew some other players were
playing good. I felt confident about my chances of winning after I
birdied the 16th hole." Elliott was disappointed with his round, but
pleased with his overall performance during the tournament. "I just
didn't catch the breaks today," said Elliott. "Connell was playing well
and I knew it was going to be tough to catch him." Jason Caron, of
South Yarmouth, MA, and Kyle Owen, of Lebanon GA, finished eight
strokes off the lead and tied for third place.
Next week the NGA Hooters Tour will be in St. Louis, Missouri for the
Stations Casino Classic at Tapawingo National Golf Club.
