Gold Course, Old Fort, North Carolina's Greg Parker came from two
shots back and captured the Budweiser Classic in Tallahassee. "There
were definitely a lot of similarities between last year and this," smiled
Parker. "Although I didn't go quite as low this time, but the date was
about the same and I putted the ball well then, and this week." John
Kimbell, Summerville, Ga., and Eric Epperson, Dallas, Texas, both
finished tied for 2nd place at 14-under par. Kimbell had the lead for
most of the day at 14-under par, but a costly double-bogey on hole 15
took him out of contention. He did make an eagle on the final hole to
get back to 14-under par. "I played that hole 4-over par this week,"
said Kimbell. "I just got stuck up on that hill behind the hole and
caught a bad break and ended up making a double (bogey)." Kimbell
has 2 second place finishes this year, the other being in Wilmington,
North Carolina. Parker, playing in the group behind Kimbell, made a
bogey on the 17th hole to put him back into a tie with Kimbell. But
then got the ball up and down on 18 to win by a single stroke. "When
I saw that we were knotted at 14-under, I knew that I had the
tournament in my hands," continued Parker. "I just chipped it to
within 6 feet and made the putt for birdie and won. Third round leader
Vaughn Taylor, Augusta, Ga., fired a final round 77 and finished tied
for 22nd place.
Next week the NGA Hooters Tour moves to Indigo Lakes Country Club
in Daytona Beach, Florida for the Budweiser Classic.
