Hooters Classic at Wilmington
Echo Farms Golf & Country Club
Wilmington, NC Par 72; 7,004 yards
Wilmington, N.C...NGA Hooters Tour rookie Vaughn Taylor, fresh
off a disappointing 4th place finish last week in Fayetteville, N.C.,
fired 16-under par and won the Hooters Classic at Echo Farms
Country Club in Wilmington, North Carolina. Taylor, from Augusta,
Georgia, won by two strokes over John Kimbell and Jason Buha.
Kimbell, playing in a group ahead of Taylor, had a chance to pull even
with Taylor at 16-under par but made a costly bogey on the 18th hole.
In Fayetteville, Taylor was the 2nd round leader and trailed Tim Straub
by one shot going into the final round, but he fired a 2-over par 74
finished tied for 4th place. "I was really disappointed last week because
I didn't think I would have the chance to be in that position too many
times," said the Augusta State College graduate. "But this week I was
putting and striking the ball really well." At one point during the final
round Vaughn had a four-stroke advantage on Buha, but made 2 bogeys
on holes 6 and 11. "At that point (when he made the 2 bogeys) I got
worried and a little nervous," continued Taylor. "But I was determined
to win and knew that I had to be more aggressive down the stretch."
This was Taylor's first professional win as he just turned pro in January
of this year. Next week the tour moves on to North Myrtle Beach,
South Carolina for the Coors Light Classic at Baytree Plantation.
