Columbia, S.C...Chad Campbell has won again. It is an amazing streak
early in the 2000 campaign as Campbell has won three tournaments in a
row and is victorious in 4 of the 6 tournaments played this year. This
week he didn't win by his usual 6, 7 or 9 strokes, he had to earn his
victory in a playoff over rookie Jeremy Parrott, from Atlanta, Georgia.
Parrott and Campbell were knotted at 10-under par following regulation
and needed 3 extra holes to break the tie. Campbell made a birdie on
the par 3, 11th hole to seal the win. "I hit it in the exact same place
as I did earlier today," said Campbell. "I missed it before but I was
sure to make it this time around." Parrott missed his 50-foot birdie
attempt on the 11th hole by a few inches. Parrott, a 1st Team
All-American who graduated from the University of Georgia last fall,
fired a 6-under par 66 to get into the playoff. "Obviously I'm
disappointed that I didn't win the tournament, but I am very pleased
with my play this week," said Parrott.
Campbell, who started the day 3 strokes off the lead, had birdies on
holes 2, 3, 4, and 6 before making a double bogey on the 8th hole. He
regained his composure on the par 5, 9th hole and made a birdie. He
continued his birdie barrage on holes 12, 13, 16 and 18. "I am going
to relax next week and go visit my parents," smiled Campbell, who has
already earned over $85,000 this year.
Dave Schreyer and William Lanier finished in a tie for 3rd at 7-under
par. D.J. Nelson finished tied for 5th place at 6-under par.
The NGA/Hooters Tour is off next week before going to Southaven,
Mississippi in two weeks for the Goldstrike Casino Classic at The
Club at North Creek.
