Maryville, TN...Mark Wilson birdied five of his first ten holes today
to win the Hooters Classic. Wilson, of Pewaukee, Wis., started the
day 4 shots back of third round leader, Gary Martin, and he quickly
erased any deficit. " I went out and played the first few holes
really well today and knew I put myself in contention," said Wilson.
Scott Kammann, Richard Coughlan, and Steve Pope finished in a three
way tie for second at 279, 9 under par. Third round leader, Gary Martin,
struggled today shooting 81.
Wilson began with birdies on one, two, four, and six on the front side
and started his back nine out well with a birdie at ten and finished
the day with a 69. At that point Wilson had a one stroke lead with
8 holes to play. "I had been in total control of my round today until
I hit thirteen and fourteen," commented Wilson. Wilson missed
consecutive putts from about two feet on thirteen and fourteen for
bogeys. Wilson collected $20,000.00 with the two stroke victory. This
was Wilson's first victory of the 2000 NGA Hooters Tour campaign and
third in three years. The NGA Hooters Tour now takes a three week
sabbatical until June 5th when the NGA Hooters moves to Decatur, Alabama.
