The National Golf Association' Professional Golf Tour, presented by Naturally Fresh Foods and Hooters Restaurants, announced plans for it's 2001 season and they include more dates, new locations and bigger guaranteed purses.
The 2001 schedule includes 25 tournaments, and more than $3.2 million in prize money including the $250,000 season ending Naturally Fresh Foods Tour Championship.
Besides the season ending Tour Championship, the 2001 NGA TOUR season will also feature 3 other "Major" events in 2001. The first being the 2nd annual Kandy Waters Memorial Classic March 5-11 at The River Golf Club in North Augusta, South Carolina which will be played for a total purse of $140,000.
Meanwhile, two other "Major" events will be played for $150,000 each. One in Decatur, Alabama June 4-10; and one more in Lakeland, Florida August 21-September 2.
"Our goal is to prepare our players for the rigors of life on the PGA & Buy.com tours. We want our players to know what to expect when they get there." Said NGA TOUR President Robin L. Waters. "Playing 4 round, 72 hole tournaments for guaranteed purses each and every week is exactly what our players can expect to see on the next level. We want to do everything we can to prepare them for that move."
Before daylight savings time NGA TOUR events will have guaranteed purses of $105,000, after daylight savings time they jump up to
$125,000; an increase of 20% over 2000.
The season is also getting off to an early start in 2001, beginning at the Ravines Inn & Golf Club in Jacksonville, Florida the week of February 5-11. Also new in 2001 are stops in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, St. Louis, Missouri, Inverrary, Florida, Greensboro, North Carolina, Shreveport, Louisiana, Bessemer City, North Carolina and Monroe,
Louisiana.
Once again, the season will conclude with the $250,000 Naturally Fresh Foods Tour Championship to be played at WhiteWater Country Club in Fayetteville, Georgia September 24-30.
